- External carotid will be medial to ICA
- First branch of external carotid is superior thyroid artery (or ascending pharyngeal)
- Hypoglossal nerve crosses at/above? bifurcation

- Indications for surgical management
- Asymptomatic - ICA stenosis 60-99%
- Should have life expectancy > 5 years, low surgical risk
- Symptomatic carotid disease = focal neurologic symptoms in carotid artery distribution, including TIA, amaurosis fugax, CVA
- ASA 81 daily for all patients
- CEA - patch vs eversion
