Definition
- Fever: T > 38.3C (101F) x 1, or T > 38.0 (100.4) for > 1 hr
- Fever of unknown origin (FUO): T > 38.3 for > 3 wks without identified source despite intensive eval/testing
- FUO may be nosocomial, HIV, immune deficient
- Neutropenic fever: fever with ANC >= 500 cells/mm3
- Gram negative (E. coli, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas)
- Likely GI flora infection mediated by mucositis/GI side effects of chemo
- Gram positive (staph, enterococcus, viridans strep, strep pneumo)
- Fungal (aspergillus, candida)
